Testing can be broadly defined as the process of running software in specific ways to ensure that it behaves as intended. The goal of testing is to find application flaws so that they may be identified and fixed. According to the ANSI/IEEE 1059 standard, testing is the process of analyzing a software item to detect differences between existing and required conditions (defects/errors/bugs) and to evaluate the features of the software item.
