Capybara's habitatis the original and unique species of rodent, called the true Capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius). The closest relative is the guinea pig, and it lives in South America, especially in the river basins of the Amazon, Orinoco, and Paraná rivers. Capybaras live in groups near water and build nests in areas with abundant vegetation. They are highly social animals, usually living in groups of up to 100 individuals, but typically 10 to 20 individuals.
